Getting Around San Jose
Known as the gateway to Silicon Valley, San Jose is conveniently located in the Bay Area and accessible by way of the region’s international airports, expressways and public transportation.
- Airports: The Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport (SJC) is just three miles from downtown San Jose. The smallest of the three Bay Area airports, it offers convenience with 13 airlines, quick baggage pickup and a short cab ride to San Jose. Oakland International Airport (OAK), located off of I-880, is 40 miles from San Jose, while San Francisco International Airport (SFO) is also 40 miles from San Jose and accessible via the Caltrain rail system.
- Highways: Access San Jose by way of three interstate highways: I-280, I-880 and I-680. Get driving directions to San Jose.
- Rail: Caltrain is the region’s commuter rail system that provides access to San Francisco and connects with the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) system that can transport you to locations throughout San Francisco and the East Bay. Amtrak runs between San Jose and Sacramento on the Capitol Corridor line, and it also connects Los Angeles and Seattle via the Coast Starlight. Silicon Valley also has its Valley Transit Authority light rail system, providing access to local businesses and attractions, and making it easy to navigate downtown.
